Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School. We are pleased that you have chosen to visit our website and welcome any questions or comments you might have.

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is located in the "Downtown" area of our city of 18,000+ people. We are a congregation of 1100 baptized members including approximately 900 communicant members. We have been blessed by our gracious Lord and Savior to the point where we carry out a broad-based program of mission and ministry in our community, our country, and our world. These missions and ministries carried out in the name of Jesus Christ and a history of our congregation are found at other places on this website.

The ministry of our school is to "train up children in the way they should go so when they are old, they will not depart from it" (Prov. 22:6). This training begins with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His saving grace. It then continues with teaching the whole child academically, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. We are pleased to teach children in grades Preschool through eighth. Our school is supported by a full-time child care center and after care programs.

Greeting from Pastor Faulkner - December 2017

Dear Friends in Christ,

Normally, I was a good kid growing up. I obeyed the rules and honored my father and mother. However, one Christmas I unwrapped a gift for me early when no one was looking. I was hoping to get an electric keyboard for making music – and that’s what it was! I carefully taped the wrapping paper back into place and put the gift under the tree at my grandparent’s house and then had to wait for Christmas morning to unwrap it and actually play with it. I knew it was there waiting for me. Knowing what the gift was made me that much more anxious for Christmas morning.

We know what the gift of God the Father is for us – our salvation by the cross of Christ. Each day is a day we live in His grace and with His gifts of faith, family, food, and the Means of Grace – His Word and the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Each day is a little Easter too as we live in the power of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and wait for His return. Yet, at this time of the year, Christmastime, we think of gifts. I encourage parents and grandparents to focus little ones on the gift of Jesus at Christmastime and not only on the gifts under the tree. That gift that I so wanted as a child and played with years ago – I’m sure we sold in a garage sale for a tenth of what my parents paid for it. I have a few things I have never out grown from my childhood. Things that mostly rest in a plastic tub in the basement that I pull out every now and then.

The one gift that is everlasting is the gift of faith God worked in me in water and His Word. That is what I treasure and hold onto everyday. That faith in Christ is what our children need to have nourished everyday by mother and father, pastor and teacher, grandparents, and loving family and friends who know that every good gift comes down from heaven and there is one Christmas gift that is eternal – our Saviour Jesus Christ who gives us His goodness in place of our sinfulness, so that we might live eternally.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in Christ.

Peace in Christ,

Pastor Faulkner
