Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School. We are pleased that you have chosen to visit our website and welcome any questions or comments you might have.

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is located in the "Downtown" area of our city of 18,000+ people. We are a congregation of 1100 baptized members including approximately 900 communicant members. We have been blessed by our gracious Lord and Savior to the point where we carry out a broad-based program of mission and ministry in our community, our country, and our world. These missions and ministries carried out in the name of Jesus Christ and a history of our congregation are found at other places on this website.

The ministry of our school is to "train up children in the way they should go so when they are old, they will not depart from it" (Prov. 22:6). This training begins with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His saving grace. It then continues with teaching the whole child academically, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. We are pleased to teach children in grades Preschool through eighth. Our school is supported by a full-time child care center and after care programs.

Greeting from Pastor Faulkner - April 2018

Dear Friends in Christ,

April, the fourth month of our year, may take its name from the 5th century AD Anglo Saxons who referred to April as Oster-month or Eostre-monath, a reference to the false goddess Eostre, whose feast was celebrated during the month. A famous British monk believed this gave root to the word Easter which is often observed in the month of April. April may also come from the Latin word aprilis which is derived from the Latin aperire meaning to open which could refer to the opening or blossoming of flowers and trees.

Easter Sunday opens with the traditional phrase, “He is risen, He is risen, indeed, Alleluia.” Some words like april have lost their original meaning to time, but not “alleluia.” It is a Hebrew phrase that means “praise God” and has been used in worship for over four thousand years, originally in Jewish worship and now by Christians.

For two thousand years some have thought Christians were fools for believing Jesus had been raised from the dead. Easter Sunday and All Fool’s Day are both celebrated on the same day this year. Does that mean anything? Mark Twain said that April 1 reminds us of what we are the other 364 days of the year. The resurrection of Christ is foolish, but only to those who do not believe (1 Corinthians 1). To us Jesus’ resurrection is our life and deserves our alleluias every Sunday. His resurrection is our confidence that we will be raised too and live forever singing alleluias in heaven.

Have fun this April Fool’s Day and have confidence in the promise and act of God our Father in raising to life His Son our Lord for our salvation.

Happy and blessed Easter,

Pastor Faulkner

Camp Luther Announcements

Camp Luther serves over 220 churches in the North Wisconsin District of the LCMS. These churches send children to youth camp, bring their confirmation kids to camp, send youth groups to winter retreats and to Keweena Base Camp on Lake Superior, and have their own family retreats. That is just a few examples of how this wonderful ministry serves our district churches.

The winners of “Every Kid to Camp” Certificates through Immanuel Lutheran Sunday School this year are: Lani & Mason Elmhorst. Lani & Mason are the children of Lisa & Thomas Elmhorst. Congratulations!

If you are interested in Camp Luther and have never attended before, contact Camp for an “Every Kid to Camp Certificate”. If you have attended before and would like to again, Camperships are available to cover up to half the cost.

Camp Luther brochures are available on the library table.
