Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School. We are pleased that you have chosen to visit our website and welcome any questions or comments you might have.

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is located in the "Downtown" area of our city of 18,000+ people. We are a congregation of 1100 baptized members including approximately 900 communicant members. We have been blessed by our gracious Lord and Savior to the point where we carry out a broad-based program of mission and ministry in our community, our country, and our world. These missions and ministries carried out in the name of Jesus Christ and a history of our congregation are found at other places on this website.

The ministry of our school is to "train up children in the way they should go so when they are old, they will not depart from it" (Prov. 22:6). This training begins with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His saving grace. It then continues with teaching the whole child academically, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. We are pleased to teach children in grades Preschool through eighth. Our school is supported by a full-time child care center and after care programs.

Greeting from Pastor Faulkner - February 2018

Dear Friends in Christ,

This February St. Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday are celebrated on the same day. Ancient Roman myth says that Cupid shoots his arrows and love springs forth in our hearts. Ancient texts of the Scriptures tell us that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. It’s fun to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, especially if there are little ones in the house. I can recall making a Valentine’s Day box out of a shoebox for all the Valentines I would receive at school. We’d go around the classroom, delivering Valentines into the slot we’d cut out on top of our box and sneak candy out while the teacher wasn’t looking. Those are nice memories. What’s better yet, is the everlasting love we receive from our Heavenly Father in Christ Jesus. From His sacred heart flowed a love that kept Him on the cross, enduring the shame and guilt of our sin. No greater love was ever shown in the history of mankind and so we celebrate His passion for us in Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday. We worship with foreheads marked with the sign of His cross in ashes, a sign of our repentance before the Almighty Lord. Hear again the reminder – “Dust you are and to dust you shall return.”

The theme for Lent 2018 is “Thy Will be Done.” Drawing from Christ’s prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane we will reflect on seeking God’s will in all aspects of our lives; our identity, our future, our worldview and our response to Christ the Crucified. The biblical characters of Abraham, Moses, David, Mary, Paul, and others are insightful reference points for our own lives in Christ.

Lenten services begin February 14 with Ash Wednesday at 4 and 6:30pm with the ashes of last year’s Palm Sunday palms placed on our heads, marking the season and us as God’s people who will have died to sin and now rise and live in Christ.

God’s peace in Christ,

Pastor Faulkner
